Mayor Carolyn Goodman Welcomes U.S. Mayors To Las Vegas
U.S. Conference Of Mayors Holding Annual Meetings In Las Vegas June 21-24

Hundreds of mayors from across the country will meet in Las Vegas June 21-24 for the 81st annual meeting of the United States Conference of Mayors (UCSM). The four-day session at the Mandalay Bay hotel-casino will be led by conference president Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter and host Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn G. Goodman.

Economic health, education, safety, gun control, veteran’s issues, health care, immigration and energy efficiency are among items on this year’s agenda.

“I’m happy to welcome our nation’s mayors back to fabulous Las Vegas,” Mayor Goodman said. “We hosted the conference in 2006, and I know this conference will prove again how collaboratively our cities work together to improve the quality of life in the nation while addressing critical issues facing our municipalities.

“I look forward to sharing with the visiting mayors the incredible rebound and renaissance we are enjoying here in Las Vegas despite the continuing economic struggles we face. We are proud to show how we are working to be a world leader when it comes to our growing cultural base, a center for medical tourism and a leader in sustainability.”

The USCM is the official nonpartisan organization of cities with populations of 30,000 or more. There are 1,139 such cities in the country today, and each city is represented in the conference by its mayor.

Press must pre-register to gain access to the conference by logging onto http://usmayors.org/81stAnnualMeeting. After showing valid, current identification, media outlet representatives must pick up meeting credentials in the USCM working press room -- “Coral C” at Mandalay Bay.  An advance draft agenda is located on the USCM website at www.usmayors.org.

Mayor Goodman and the USCM leadership will host an opening press conference on Friday, June 21 at 10 a.m. in the South Pacific B room at Mandalay Bay.

Editor’s Note: Mayor Goodman is available for media interviews to discuss the impact of the conference coming to Las Vegas as well as topics she is hoping to discuss with the mayors.
