Fremont East Entertainment District
In 2002, the city of Las Vegas Redevelopment Agency created an entertainment district in the heart of downtown Las Vegas: Fremont East. The Fremont East Entertainment District sits adjacent to the popular tourist attraction, the Fremont Street Experience. The Fremont Street Experience and its celebrated Viva Vision light show extravaganza is visited by millions of tourists each year. The Fremont East Entertainment District offers an eclectic mixture of bars, clubs and restaurants along Fremont Street from Las Vegas Boulevard to Eighth Street. The district continues one block north of Fremont Street to Ogden Avenue and one block south to Carson Avenue. In 2007, the Las Vegas Redevelopment Agency and Fremont East property and business owners committed $5.5 million through a public-private partnership for a major streetscape improvement for the Fremont East Entertainment District. This three-block renovation included pedestrian-friendly street redesign, landscaping and retro-looking neon signage. The Redevelopment Agency offers financial inducements for businesses to locate in the Fremont East Entertainment District. The city can reimburse you up to $50,000 for facade improvements and neon signage through the Visual Improvement Program. Under the Quick Start Program, qualified applicants can be reimbursed up to $50,000 toward the cost of rehabilitating older structures to bring them up to current building and fire code standards. Matching funds from the business are required for both these programs. In addition, beginning in February 2010, the city began waiving the $20,000 tavern-limited license origination fee for businesses locating within the district. In the Fremont East Entertainment District, you’ll be keeping good company with popular downtown venues such as Azul Tequila Nightclub & Concert Venue, The Beat Coffeehouse, Beauty Bar, Downtown Cocktail Room, The Griffin, Insert Coin(s), Le’ Thai, the Vanguard Lounge and more in the planning and construction stages.
