If you have received a citation for a traffic misdemeanor (examples include speeding, improper lane change and other moving violations) follow these steps:

1. Wait 14 business days (30-45 business days if the citation was issued by Nevada Highway Patrol) for it to be entered into the Municipal Court system. Payments will not be processed if the citation is not in the system.

- The defendant must be on the phone and will be asked several questions to confirm their identity
- Call (702) 38COURT or (800) 654-6856 if out of state, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pacific time. Due to high call volumes you may experience an extended wait time on the phone.
- Have the following items ready:
- Your ticket number, case number or history number
- Visa, Mastercard, Discover or Diner’s Club credit or debit card (Company or business credit cards are not accepted)
- Pen and paper ready
- The credit card holder must be the person calling or be on the phone with the defendant
- If your credit card declines for any reason, you will not be allowed to enter your plea by phone and you will be required to appear at the Las Vegas Municipal Court Traffic Counter.

- Fines and fees are considered paid when received by the Court. Late payments may result in a warrant being issued for your arrest, a possible Contempt of Court charge and additional fees.

Defendant must be present to enter their plea. Payments can be made at the court counter at:

- Accepted forms of payment in person are:
- cash
- money order
- cashier’s, personal, attorney, business or travelers check
- Visa, Mastercard, Discover or Diner’s Club credit or debit card (company or business credit cards are not accepted)
- When appearing in person at the court counter you must show valid State or Government-issued picture identification:
- State Driver’s License
- State-issued Identification Card
- Military Identification Card
- Military Dependent Identification Card
- Clark County-issued Work Card
- United States or foreign passport
Note: It is recommended that you do not use the drop boxes located at the Regional Justice Center entrances as it may take days or weeks for payments to be processed. Do not put cash in the drop box. Las Vegas Municipal Court is not responsible for items placed in the drop box. |
Step 5: Mandatory Court Appearance or entering a Not Guilty plea
Look up your violation to determine whether you must appear at the Traffic Services Counter to check in for Traffic Court or whether you must appear in a criminal department. You and/or your attorney must appear in Court if you are a Nevada resident.
Traffic Court check-in is held Monday through Friday at 9:30 a.m., 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Traffic Court check-in is done on a first come, first served basis. It is recommended that you appear at least an hour before the session you would like to attend.
If your case is scheduled to be seen in a criminal department, please arrive at least 45 minutes before your scheduled court time. Check the Master Calendar board, located directly behind the information desk at both entrances, for your name and the department where you must appear.
If you live out of state you may either:
Obtain an attorney to represent you (attorney must be licensed to practice in the State of Nevada) or
Mail in:
- Notarized copy of plea (go to plea waiver form
)
- Proof of residency (lease or rental agreement or utility bill in Defendant’s name. Cell phone bills and bank statements are not accepted.)
- Brief letter of explanation
Please be sure to include the citation or case number and return mailing address and phone number. The information will be forwarded to the Judge or Traffic Commissioner for a decision. If you have not received a written notification from the Court within 45 business days, please contact the Court at the number on your citation.
When appearing in person you must show valid State or Government-issued picture identification:

- United States or foreign passport
Juveniles appearing at the Court must have a parent or legal guardian present at time of plea.
Court policies:
- No weapons of any kind are allowed in Court (including but not limited to firearms, pocket knives, mace or pepper spray)
- Wear appropriate attire (no shorts, tank tops, slippers, midriffs, etc.)
- No children are allowed in Court without prior judicial consent
