Q) I just received a citation (ticket). What do I do?
A) Check your citation to find out which court your ticket will be filed (Where to look). Once you have confirmed your citation is with the Las Vegas Municipal Court, you must wait 14 business days (30 to 45 business days if your citation was issued by Nevada Highway Patrol) for your citation to be entered into the system. Once you have waited the allotted time frame please follow the steps outlined on the webpage.
Q) I have verified my citation (ticket) is with the Las Vegas Municipal Court, how much will my citation cost?
A) You can find out how much you owe on the Court’s webpage by using the Municipal Court Violation Lookup.
Q) Do I have to go to traffic school?
A) Traffic school is an educational class that the Court provides to enhance the public’s driving awareness and promote driver safety and caution. In some instances attending traffic school may amend your citation to a no-point violation as well as reduce the fine amount. You can find out if Traffic School is an option for your ticket by using the Municipal Court Violation Lookup.
Q) I think the fine amount is too much; will it be reduced if I go to court?
A) It is your right to appear in court; there is no assurance that the Judge or Traffic Commissioner will change your fine amount.
Q) Can someone else come in and pay my ticket for me?
A) ONLY if you have already been sentenced on your citation(s), may someone (other than your attorney) come in and pay your fine or installment payment for you. There are also alternative ways to pay your fines (Pay the citation).
Q) Will my fine amount be reduced if I hire an attorney?
A) The fine amount is at the discretion of the Judge or Traffic Commissioner.
Q) How can I set up a payment plan?
A) You MUST appear in person at the counter of the Las Vegas Municipal Court to enter a plea and establish a payment plan.

Q) Can I make my monthly installment payment online?
A) Yes! But you must first come in person to the Las Vegas Municipal Court counter to set up your payment plan (see question & answer above).
Q) I am unemployed, on a fixed income or have a medical disability and can not afford to go on payments. What other options do I have?
A) You MUST appear in person at the counter of Las Vegas Municipal Court with a completed Financial Affidavit and documentation to support your claim. You will be scheduled for a Pre-screening session and an interview by a Judicial Enforcement Officer to determine your eligibility to pay.
Q) My case(s) have gone into warrant, what do I do?
A) If your case is in warrant status, you must contact the Judicial Enforcement Unit of the Las Vegas Municipal Court at (702) 229-2067 or appear in person at the Las Vegas Municipal Court to resolve the warrant.
Q) My license is suspended or I received notification from the Department of Motor Vehicles that my license will be suspended. What do I do?
A) You must contact the Department of Motor Vehicles for information on how to handle the suspension. www.dmvnv.com
Q) How many points do I have on my driver’s license?
A) You must contact the Department of Motor Vehicles for information about how many points you have on your driving record. www.dmvnv.com
Q) The officer said my citation was a fix it ticket, why is there a fine?
A) Fines & Fees are established by the Legislature and/or local ordinance. Sentencing is at the discretion of the Judge or Traffic Commissioner.
Q) My case is due for payment today and I do not have a credit card to pay via internet or phone and will not make it down to the Court before the close of business, is there an alternate way to make my payment?
A) Yes, if your case is a traffic related offense not scheduled in a criminal department (Departments 1-6). Information about paying using MoneyGram or Western Union is available (Pay the citation). If your case is scheduled in a criminal department, you must come in to make your payment.
Q) My payment was due yesterday, can I pay it today?
A) Cases go into warrant at midnight on the day that they are due if no appearance or payment has been made. You must contact the Judicial Enforcement Unit of Las Vegas Municipal Court at (702) 229-2067 if your case is in warrant status or you must appear in person at the Las Vegas Municipal Court.
Q) Why is the fine amount listed on the back of my citation different than the amount on the fine table?
A) The fine amount listed on the back of the citation pertains to Las Vegas Justice Court and is not applicable to citations filed with the Las Vegas Municipal Court. We are two different courts.
Q) I wrote a check to the court and my bank has advised me that the check has been returned to the court for insufficient funds. What do I do?
A) You must contact the Judicial Enforcement Unit of the Las Vegas Municipal Court at (702) 229-2067 or appear in person. Only cash will be accepted for reimbursement of the bad check plus an additional $25 bad check fee.
If you fail to resolve the bad check a warrant for your arrest may be issued.
