Work to install the new, temporary Fire & Rescue Station #101, on Sky Pointe Drive/Grand Teton Drive to the west of Ackerman Avenue, will start this week and will take approximately eight weeks to complete. Intermittent traffic lane restrictions can be expected on Sky Point Drive/Grand Teton Drive between El Capitan Way and Horse Drive while work is underway.
Fire Station #101, located at 9043 Ackerman Avenue, will consist of a modular office, dormitory, and a fire apparatus canopy. When completed, this temporary station will house an intermediate four-person fire engine crew for Fire Station #48 which is now under construction. Fire Station #48 is currently being built on the northeast corner of Elkhorn Road and Fort Apache Road, and is slated for completion by the end of 2008. Fire Station #101 will continue to house intermediate crews until their permanent stations are completed in the future throughout the northwest portion of the city.
Construction of the temporary fire station is an economical interim measure for the city of Las Vegas to expand its pool of emergency response resources in the fast-growing Centennial Hills area. Currently Fire Station #41, located at 6989 North Buffalo Drive, is the nearest station in the vicinity.
Fire Station #101 is slated for completion in mid-May. The contractor is Trade West. City of Las Vegas Public Works Department personnel are managing the project. Funding for the $240,000 facility is provided by the city of Las Vegas.
