KCLV Channel 2 Receives Four Top Honors During 12th Annual STAR Awards
City's Channel Receives Nine Awards Overall

KCLV Channel 2, the city of Las Vegas’ government access television channel, took home four first place STAR Awards during the SCAN NATOA spring conference this week.

KCLV won first place in the Documentary category for a special on the Las Vegas Department of Detention and Enforcement, which recently celebrated its 25th birthday; first place in the Public Service Category for a short spot on how to have a “kid safe” Halloween; first place in the Economic Development category for a video that highlighted the city’s efforts to be a sustainable community, which was presented during the World Leadership Awards in London; and first place in the Public Affairs category for a feature on the city’s priority to provide an open government.

KCLV also placed second in the Talk Show category for Access City Council, specifically a show that featured Ward 5 Councilman Ricki Y. Barlow; second place in the Overall Excellence Category; and second place in the Special Audience Category for the Naturalization Ceremony in which more than 70 Las Vegas-area residents, including military personnel, took the Oath of Allegiance and become U.S. citizens during a special ceremony hosted by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and the city of Las Vegas. The city also received third place in the Promo category for a short spot wishing viewers a happy Thanksgiving and third place for Las Vegas Town Hall, a live call-in program hosted by Mayor Oscar B. Goodman and Deputy City Manager Betsy Fretwell.

“The team in the Office of Communications continues to win award after award," said Communications Director David Riggleman. "It's wonderful recognition for our people, but means a tradition of excellence for the public we serve."

The STAR Awards recognize excellence in government programming in California and Nevada. The awards are held annually at the SCAN NATOA Spring Conference.
