Air Conditioner Starts Two-Alarm Fire In Townhome

General information about the incident:   Occupants says her air conditioner stopped working so she called the landlord who came a short time later.  She said she smelled something but thought it was bug spray.  Landlord came to front door and noticed smoke beginning to come out around air conditioner on roof of unit.  Occupant opened the door, she was not aware of the fire.  They left the unit and called 9-1-1 using cell phone.  Fire quickly advanced.  By the time firefighters arrived, heavy smoke and flames from the roof.  Quickly brought under control, damage mostly to attic and roof.  Most of the occupant’s possessions were saved by firefighters.  Fire investigators believe the fire start at or in the air conditioner unit, they ruled the fire accidental.
