The residents of Sun City Summerlin are thinking green as they prepare to join in on a Spring Greenup Cleanup event. The city of Las Vegas is teaming up with community partners Republic Services, Safe Nest, Boy Scouts of America and the Boys and Girls Club to help residents clear out unwanted items and get on a greener path by getting rid of energy wasting appliances.
Four special trash pickup zones have been established by Republic Services for the month of May. Residents in the area will be notified by a mailer on what day they can expect the special pickup service.
Free assistance can be arranged for seniors or disabled residents who need help getting items to the curb for pickup by calling the city’s Neighborhood Services Department 229-2330.
A community yard sale will be hosted by Sun City for the residents on April 25, at Mountain Shadows Community Center, 9107 Del Webb Blvd. from 7 a.m. until noon.
“Spring is a great time to think green as we clean out our homes,” said Ward 4 Councilman David W. Steinman (interim). “It’s the perfect time to get rid of old appliances that drain a lot of energy and to recycle items that could go to better use elsewhere.”
It is a city priority to support and encourage a sustainable future for Las Vegas by using alternative fuel vehicles, promoting green buildings, conserving our natural resources and looking for more efficient ways to get things done.
Neighborhood Services promotes, develops and supports safe, healthy neighborhoods through partnerships, education and compliance. Communities that would like to learn more about tapping these city resources can call 229-2330. Visit the city’s Web site to see what services are available at www.lasvegasnevada.gov.
