Downtown Power Infrastructure Improvement Project Starts Monday, Sept. 28
Expect Traffic Lane Restrictions On Sections Of Main And First Streets

The city of Las Vegas plans to install and upgrade the power infrastructure in sections of Main and First streets.

The $1.5 million improvement project is scheduled to start Monday, Sept. 28, and will take approximately five months to complete. Day and night work will take place in order to complete the construction as quickly as possible and with the least amount of disruptions to traffic and nearby businesses.

Work will take place on Main, between Boulder and Clark avenues; and on First, between Coolidge and Gass avenues. In addition, work will occur on Coolidge and Gass, between Main and First. The project also includes construction activity to the west of Main near Clark, continuing west to the Union Pacific railroad tracks and the city of Las Vegas Symphony Park development site. Work will also take place at some of the adjacent side-street approaches to Main.

Traffic lane restrictions will be in effect while work is underway. Main will narrow to one travel lane in each direction in work zones. To maintain one travel lane in each direction on the adjacent east-west streets, some on-street parking will temporarily be removed. Access to area businesses will be maintained during the construction and the on-street parking will return when the improvements are completed.

The infrastructure improvement project is slated for completion in March 2010. Symphony Park infrastructure bonds are funding the improvements.
