An atmospheric horror film that captures the torment and power of artistic production, “Trece Campanadas” stars Juan Diego Botto as Jacobo, a young, troubled sculptor who suffered the tragic death of his father when he was a small boy. One fateful night, 13 peals of the Cathedral bell preceded the shotgun blast that killed Mateo (Luis Tosar), Jacobo's father. Jacobo returns home from Buenos Aires when he discovers that his mother, thought to be dead for many years, is actually alive and in a psychiatric institution. Upon his arrival, he begins to be tormented by visions of his father, urging him to finish work on a sculpture for the cathedral that he had begun many years ago. Soon, however, Mateo's true intentions are discovered: once Jacobo finishes the work, he will take over his son's body, and return to life. Jacobo is plagued by the sound of the tolling Cathedral bell--but is he really being visited by his father's ghost, or is he suffering from the same schizophrenia that holds his mother captive? Series curator Luis Bonilla will introduce the film and lead a discussion in Spanish following the screening. This 2002 film is unrated, runs 108 minutes, and is in Spanish. Supported by VeneMovies, Venevision International, Cox Communications, La Nueva, Radio Variedades, Recuerdo and Los Arcos.
