New Traffic Signal At The Pecos Road And Harris Avenue Intersection Begins Operating Thursday, Oct. 22
Increasing Traffic Volume Drives The Need For A Signal

City of Las Vegas traffic crews plan to put the new traffic signal, at the Pecos Road and Harris Avenue intersection, into full green-amber-red service Thursday morning, Oct. 22. To alert motorists to the upcoming traffic changes, on Wednesday, the lights for north-south travel on Pecos will be placed onto a “flashing yellow” operation and drivers should proceed with caution through the intersection. The lights for east-west travel on Harris will be placed on a “red flash” mode which drivers should treat as a full stop, yielding to Pecos traffic.

“This busy intersection generates a lot of traffic to Desert Pines High School on Washington Avenue, and Mountain View Christian School on Harris,” said Mayor Pro Tem Gary Reese, who represents this area of Ward 3. “Traffic counts indicate that some 30,000 vehicles travel through the intersection each day, and that number is going to go up when the new Big League Dreams Sports Park opens.”

Six replica fields for softball and baseball are under construction at the city of Las Vegas’ Freedom Park, located south of Washington between Pecos and Mojave roads. The new sports park is slated to open in early 2010.

The traffic signal at Pecos and Harris was funded by the city of Las Vegas.
