Everyone is invited to join in the contra dancing on Saturday, Nov. 7, at Charleston Heights Arts Center, 800 S. Brush St. An acoustic band will play joyful fiddle tunes, driving reels and a waltz or two as the Southern Nevada Old Time Contra Dancers lead the dances. Tickets are priced at $7 adults; $5 members, students and military; and $3 children up to 15 years old and non-dancing adults. Group lessons will be conducted at 6:30 p.m. The dance will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. All dances are taught and called. Newcomers and families are welcomed. This lively community dance recaptures aspects of New England and frontier barn dances, with more modern twists. No need to bring a partner. Wear flat-soled shoes and casual clothing. Contra dances usually are held twice monthly. Future dances are scheduled for Nov. 21 and Dec. 19. For more information, call the center at 229-6383.
