City Of Las Vegas To Update Population Element Of Its 2020 Master Plan
Neighborhood Meetings First Step Toward Adoption

The city of Las Vegas has scheduled several neighborhood meetings to get the public’s input of the Population Element of the Las Vegas 2020 Master Plan. The Population Element will be presented to the public on the following dates:

Monday, Nov. 2, 2009, 6:30 p.m.
Rafael Rivera Community Center, 2900 Stewart Ave.

Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009, 6:30 p.m.
Centennial Hills Active Adult Center, 6601 North Buffalo Drive

Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, 6:30 p.m.
Mirabelli Community Center, 6200 Hargrove Ave.

A draft version of the Population Element is scheduled to be discussed in a public hearing by the Las Vegas Planning Commission on Nov. 19, 2009, in Las Vegas City Hall council chambers.

The Population Element is a required component of the city’s master plan as mandated by NRS 278.160. The Population Element was originally adopted in April 1992, and has not been updated since 2003.

The Population Element serves as the city’s guide for assuring that natural resources are available to safely and efficiently accommodate future population growth.

The updated Population Element accomplishes the following:

  • Brings element into conformance with NRS 278.160.
  • Provides an analysis of the city’s existing population and projected future growth.
  • Identifies potential natural resource constraints to future population growth.
  • Identifies and makes recommendations for the future monitoring and projecting of population growth and establishing service standards.

The draft plan elements are available on the city’s Web site at www.lasvegasnevada.gov/planning.
