General information about the incident:   Passerby called 9-1-1 on cell phone to report flames in the area of Beverly Way.  When crews arrived on scene, heavy flames were showing from rear of house where outside back patio and kitchen inside the home is located. All windows and doors had security bars, firefighters had to use saws to cut through the bars. Once inside, they had the fire under control in less than 10 minutes.  As they searched the house, the body of an elderly lady was found lying on the floor in a back bedroom. It appeared she had been overcome with smoke. The house had extensive debris in it, which helped fuel the fire. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Neighbors say the woman lived alone, her husband died a few years ago.  According to neighbors, she was able to walk without a problem. It did not appear there were smoke alarms in the house. Neighbors say they believe that relatives live out of state. Metro Police and the Clark County Coroner’s Office is working on the identity of the victim and contacting next of kin. If ruled a fatal fire, this would be the eighth fatal fire in the city of Las Vegas this year.
