Two Alarm Apartment Building Fire Ruled Accidental

Description of damage:  Four apartment units received fire and water damage, other units minor fire control damage.  Utilities shut off to entire building.

Cause of incident:  Accidental, appears to have started in one of the furnace/air conditioner units in one of the apartments, spread to a common void space that runs through the middle of the building for utilities.

General information about the incident:   Call came in as light smoke from roof, no smoke showing from any of the apartments.  When the void area was checked, it was full of smoke.  The area of fire was in the middle of the building spreading in both directions, a second alarm was dispatched to the scene.  It took firefighters about 30 minutes to bring the fire under control.  There were no injuries.  Approximately 22 people have been displaced; the American Red Cross is assisting 11 adults and two children.
