General information about the incident: Seven adults rent rooms in this house. The elderly man woke up to go to the bathroom and noticed a fire, outside on the patio. He woke the others in the house. They opened the back door to smother the fire using a blanket. Intense 30-40 mile per hour winds fanned the flames at that point, the man said the fire sucked his blanket out of hands and he fire grew greatly in intensity. The people then ran out the front door. The wind blew through the house like a wind tunnel, taking the fire with it. As the elderly man was exiting he was badly burned. Firefighters arrived on scene and said the fire was blowing out the front door like a blowtorch. The elderly man who was burned was in the street and was immediately taken to UMC. Cause of the fire is under investigation, appears to have started outside, fanned by high winds and spread to interior of the home. The Las Vegas Fire & Rescue Foundation provided financial assistance to the occupants of the house. The American Red Cross was expected to assist the victims later in the day.
