General information about the incident:  Fire dispatchers received several calls that smoke and flames were coming from the vacant / boarded-up El Cid Hotel annex building. When firefighters arrived, heavy flames were coming from one downstairs unit and thick smoke filled the entire first floor. When firefighters entered the building, a man was found on the floor, he was quickly rescued by firefighters. When he was brought out, he told firefighters there could be as many as 20 or 30 other people in the building. A second alarm was dispatched to help conduct the search in the smoke filled building. All of the first floor windows had security bars on them and had to be removed for possible rescue. Within ten minutes firefighters had the fire under control. They searched the entire building at least two times and could not find anyone else in the building. If there was anyone else in the building, they got out before the fire department arrived on scene.  The homeless man who was brought out by firefighters indicated that other homeless people were staying in the building. Las Vegas Fire & Rescue fire investigators found evidence that the fire was intentionally set and is conducting an arson investigation.
