General information about the incident: Man was home alone and just had finished eating and then was taking a shower in a rear bathroom. He heard a loud boom inside the house and left the shower, while walking down the hall he found the house quickly filling with dense smoke. He dove through a window on the rear of the house cutting himself. 9-1-1 dispatchers received numerous calls about the fire, a column of thick black smoke could be seen from all around the Valley. Flames were through the roof when firefighters arrived on scene. The man was taken to the hospital for his injuries. Fire investigators determined the fire started in a pan on the stove. The fire spread throughout the house and caused extensive damage. All contents in the house were destroyed. One firefighter was also injured during the fire; they were taken to UMC to be checked out. On Monday, an apartment was also gutted by a kitchen fire causing $50,000 damage and injuring two people including a firefighter. Cooking fires are the leading cause of fires in Las Vegas as well as across the country. They are also the leading cause of fire related injuries.
