City Of Las Vegas Centers Among Sites Slated To Receive Federal Funds To Expand Broadband Internet Access
Eight Centers Identified Among Southern Nevada Sites To Share in $4.7 Million

 

An announced $4.7 million American Recovery and Reinvestment Act grant will go toward upgrading computer centers in Southern Nevada, according to the U.S. Commerce Department.

Eight city of Las Vegas locations are among the sites that were included in the grant application. Those sites include:

• Doolittle Community Center, 1950 N. J St. (Ward 5)
• Mirabelli Community Center, 6200 Hargrove Ave. (Ward 1)
• East Las Vegas Community Senior Center, 250 N. Eastern Ave. (Ward 3)
• Rafael Rivera Community Center, 2900 E. Stewart Ave. (Ward 3)
• Stupak Community Center, 251 W. Boston Ave. (Ward 3)
• Howard Lieburn Senior Center, 6230 Garwood Ave. (Ward 1)
• Downtown Senior Services Center, 310 S. Ninth St. (Ward 3)
• Las Vegas Senior Center, 451 E. Bonanza Road. (Ward 5)

The grant application also included sites managed by the Southern Nevada Regional Housing Authority and the Las Vegas Urban League. A total of 29 sites are listed on the grant application.

The grant will allow the city of Las Vegas in partnership with the Southern Nevada Regional Housing Authority and the Las Vegas Urban League to expand broadband access by replacing approximately 100 computer work stations and adding more than 90 new ones.
