The Las Vegas City Council, whose members also serve as the Redevelopment Agency (RDA), will hold a special budget workshop meeting at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, March 10, at Las Vegas City Hall in the council chambers. The City Council will discuss the Fiscal Year 2011 operating budget for the city, and in its capacity as the Redevelopment Agency discuss the RDA’s operating budget.
The meeting will be broadcast live on KCLV Channel 2 at 9 a.m. and online at www.kclv.tv. The meeting will be rebroadcast at 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 11; at 5 p.m. on Friday, March 12; at 3 a.m. on Saturday, March 13; at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 14, at 6 a.m. on Monday, March 15, and at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 16.
At the meeting, the council will consider a final budget reduction plan from the city manager that will help the city meet a $70 million shortfall in Fiscal Year 2011, which starts on July 1. The recommendations assume no concessions from the city’s four bargaining units, so the primary approach to balancing the budget includes reductions in programs, services and staff.
The council must complete a tentative budget by mid-April, with the final budget ready for submittal to the state in May.
