The city of Las Vegas will recognize the founder of the Goodie Two Shoes Foundation for her efforts to provide new shoes to local children at the Wednesday, July 7, City Council meeting, which will take place immediately following the 8:30 a.m. Redevelopment Agency meeting in City Hall council chambers, located at 400 Stewart Ave.
Nikki Berti founded the Goodie Two Shoes Foundation in 2003 and has been providing shoes and socks to disadvantaged children ever since. Recently she was named one of Major League Baseball’s People Magazine All-Stars Among Us. The program recognizes people who are making extraordinary contributions for the betterment of their community. Berti will be featured as an honorary All-Star at the 2010 MLB All-Star Game in Anaheim, Calif. on July 13.
In addition, Councilman Steven D. Ross will recognize Flash Flood Awareness Month in order to bring attention to the dangers of flash floods in the Las Vegas Valley. Councilman Ross represents the city of Las Vegas on the Clark County Regional Flood Control District Board, along with Mayor Oscar B. Goodman. Councilman Ross will also recognize National Parks and Recreation Month and all of the parks and recreational amenities that the city of Las Vegas provides.
Councilman Ricki Y. Barlow will honor the July Citizen of the month, and the City Council will recognize the city’s Employee of the Year. The 2010 Employee of the Year is Demetrice Black, a customer service representative with the city’s Human Resources Department. She was selected from among the previous 12 Employees of the Month.
