To help make it easier for locals and tourists to attend events and patronize businesses in downtown Las Vegas, the city of Las Vegas is lowering parking rates at the Neonopolis Parking Garage, which is located on Fourth Street near Fremont Street. The move is designed to encourage people to visit downtown, especially the nearby Fremont East Entertainment District (FEED) as well as the new tenants opening in the Neonopolis commercial center.
The new rates are:
• 1st hour free
• $1.00 per hour after that
• $5.00 daily maximum charge
• The city is also offering monthly parking for $35 per month.
Previously, rates at the garage were $1.50 per hour, with the maximum charge being $36, if someone parked in the garage for 24 hours.
The city does not anticipate substantial revenue losses associated with this change. Rather, the city expects to see increased parking in this under-utilized parking garage by appealing to customers of the new Neonopolis tenants and locals who frequent FEED.
The city is looking at several ways to make downtown parking more convenient, especially during special events. The city recently hired a new parking services manager, Brandy Stanley, whose sole responsibility it is to look at all the parking options downtown and come up with some real strategies to make parking downtown easy and convenient for visitors, workers and those attending special events.
