The city of Las Vegas is offering the new American Red Cross Lifeguard Training course for $50 during February. Normally priced at $90, the course is required for those who wish to be employed as lifeguards. Those who successfully complete the course will be certified for two years in Lifeguard Training and First Aid, as well as CPR/AED for Lifeguard. Participants must be at least 15 years old to take the class. The course is approximately 30 hours in length. Participants must attend all class sessions and successfully complete the requirements to receive certification.
Lifeguard Training classes are scheduled Monday through Friday, Feb. 6-17, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Municipal Pool, located at 431 E. Bonanza Road. Saturday classes are scheduled 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Feb. 4-March 3, at Pavilion Center Pool, 101 S. Pavilion Center Drive. Class prices do not include course manual and pocket mask that are available directly from the American Red Cross. Participants may download and print the manual at www.americanredcross.org.
American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, Water Safety Instructor, CPR for the Professional Rescuer and Lifeguard Instructor certification training classes are offered at both Municipal and Pavilion Center pools through May.
