The Stupak Community Center Youth Council invites residents to a Fun & Fitness Fair Saturday, March 31, at the center. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., families can enjoy games, healthy snacks, health screenings (blood sugar, heart rate, blood pressure) and information, and fun activities, as well as register for the center's workshops, activities and classes. Admission and all activities are free. The Stupak Community Center is located at 251 W. Boston Ave. For more information, call (702) 229-2488.
The event is the Trek for Treads project funded by a Youth Neighborhood Association Partnership Program (YNAPP) grant and developed and coordinated by youth that participate in the Stupak Community Center Youth Council. The youth saw a need for health education in their community and decided to coordinate a health fair to educate families about healthy eating habits and the benefits of physical fitness. They also invited other youth to register with their walking club and the "Let's Move" program sponsored by First Lady Michelle Obama.
YNAPP projects are facilitated by the city of Las Vegas Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services Department. Participating organizations in the fair include the Southern Nevada Health District, American Lung Association, American Diabetes Association, American Red Cross, American Cancer Society, Stand Up For Kids, and many more.
