The city of Las Vegas invites parents to enroll children in summer day camp programs at six area community centers. Summer camps will be held Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., beginning June 11. The Lorenzi Adaptive summer hours will be 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. There will be no camps July 4.
Summer camps will promote fun, fitness, adventure and education in a safe and friendly atmosphere. Children can look forward to a variety of age-appropriate activities, including field trips, sports, special events, physical fitness and games, arts, crafts and nutrition training, under the supervision of trained staff. Preferred walk-in registration for those who were enrolled in city of Las Vegas 2011 summer camps will be offered one evening only, April 12, from 5 to 9 p.m. at each participating center. Open registration begins April 19 at 8 a.m. by telephone and in person. Registration closes when the programs are full. All locations will have limited enrollment. The following four locations will offer summer camps, priced at $75 per child for the week, $70 for additional children in the family:
- Cimarron Rose Community Center, 5591 N. Cimarron Road, (702) 229-1607. Ages 6-11 only. Camp ends Aug. 24.
- Doolittle Community Center, 1950 N. J St., (702) 229-6374. Ages 6-15. Camp ends Aug. 24.
- East Las Vegas Community Center, 250 N. Eastern Ave., (702) 229-1515. Ages 6-15. Camp ends Aug. 24.
- Stupak Community Center, 251 W. Boston Ave., (702) 229-2488. Ages 6-15. Camp ends Aug. 24.
Two community centers will offer themed specialty camps with additional activities, cooking and/or field trips. The cost will be $115 per child for the week, $110 for additional children, for most camps. Both centers have a separate camp list with more details.
A separate Lorenzi Adaptive summer program for youth ages 7-22 with disabilities will be offered from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday at the East Las Vegas Community Center only. Participants will enjoy a new recreation experience every week, community outings, sports, games, arts and crafts, swimming, movies, friends, and all-around fun. The cost is $75 per child for the week, $70 for each additional child in the family. Registration for this program will open Tuesday, May 1.
