The Las Vegas City Council will recognize Building Safety Month at the Wednesday, May 2, City Council meeting that will begin following the 8:30 a.m. Redevelopment Agency meeting in City Hall council chambers, located at 495 S. Main St.
The city of Las Vegas is offering a homeowner permit amnesty program during Building Safety Month. During the month of May, homeowners who have done work on their homes without a permit will be able to pull the proper permits without incurring any additional penalties or double fees.
In addition to the amnesty, the city will host a homeowners’ forum from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 8, at the Development Services Center, located at 333 N. Rancho Drive. The forum will allow homeowners the chance to learn about permitting and other requirements for home projects.
Councilman Bob Coffin will recognize a group of Las Vegas firefighters who on Feb. 15, entered a burning apartment building and rescued three children. The children were resuscitated, and all have recovered since the fire.
Mayor Pro Tem Stavros S. Anthony is scheduled to recognize a group of student interns who have been working at the city.
Councilwoman Lois Tarkanian will recognize the success of the Clark High School magnet program, as well as the achievements of Hyde Park Middle School students in science.
In addition, Councilman Steven D. Ross will recognize the Citizen of the Month, and the City Council will recognize the Senior of the Quarter, Venetta Whitaker.
