One person is displaced after a fire started in his northwest Las Vegas condominium Saturday morning. The fire has been ruled accidental. There were no reported injuries.
Las Vegas firefighters were dispatched to the Desert Shores Villas condominium complex, 3151 Soaring Gulls Drive (Cheyenne/Rampart) at 6:23 a.m.
On arrival, smoke and fire were visible through the front door of a second floor condo. Firefighters entered the condo and had the fire extinguished in one minute.
Fire damage was confined to the kitchen, mostly around the stove. The rest of the unit had moderate smoke and heat damage. Damage was estimated at $25,000.
One person lives in the condo. He told fire investigators he got up earlier in the morning and put a large pot of water on to boil. He sat down waiting for the water to boil and fell back asleep. He woke later to the smoke alarm sounding and found fire on the stove and cabinets above. He escaped without injury.
The occupant of the condo is displaced and is being assisted by the American Red Cross. None of the other condos in the building were affected by the fire.
