The Las Vegas City Council will recognize the Gold Star Wives of America at the Wednesday, June 6, City Council meeting that will begin following the 8:30 a.m. Redevelopment Agency meeting in City Hall council chambers, located at 495 S. Main St.
The Las Vegas Valley Chapter of Gold Star Wives of America provides service, support and friendship to the widows and widowers of military personnel who died on active duty or as a result of a service connected cause. The group was organized in 1945 and has more than 10,000 members.
In addition, Mayor Carolyn G. Goodman will be recognizing the outgoing 99th Air Base Wing Commander at Nellis Air Force Base. Col. Steven D. Garland has served at Nellis since March 2010.
The City Council will also recognize Energy Fit Nevada, a new program designed to provide rebates and other financial incentives to help homeowners get control of their energy use.
Councilman Steven D. Ross will recognize the annual National Missing Children’s Poster Contest winners. The contest is designed to raise awareness of missing children.
The City Council will also honor the June Citizen of the Month and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department will make a special presentation.
