Kitchen Fire In Home Ruled Accidental
Pet Cat Died During Fire

Las Vegas firefighters responded to a kitchen fire in a home near U.S. 95 and Decatur Boulevard this afternoon. The fire was ruled accidental. There were no reported injuries.

Las Vegas fire engine six was just getting off a medical response when they noticed smoke in the sky in the area of U.S. 95 and Decatur Blvd.  When they drove to the source of the smoke, they found it coming from a house at 4901 Harmony Ave. The crew advised the fire alarm office of a working fire so other units could be dispatched at 1:36 p.m.  Las Vegas fire engine five was in the immediate area and was on scene in a couple of minutes. The crews entered the house and found the fire in the kitchen; they had the fire out in a few minutes.

The fire did get into a small area in the attic which caused minor damage, as well as the kitchen. Damage was estimated at $75,000.

There were no injuries.  A pet cat died of apparent smoke inhalation.  Two pet dogs were not at home at the time of the fire.

The American Red Cross is assisting one adult and four children that live in the house.
