Residents are encouraged to help win $100,000 in improvements for Bettye Wilson Soccer Complex by participating in an all-out effort to register votes in the "America Is Your Park" contest, sponsored by the Coca-Cola Live Positively initiative. Residents can vote online for this Las Vegas park, located at 7353 Eugene Ave., near Lake Mead Boulevard and Tenaya Way, at LivePositively.com/parks.
The Bettye Wilson Soccer Complex is headquarters for the top-rated Las Vegas Mayor's Cup soccer tournaments, held each year in October and February, drawing thousands of soccer players and their families from North America and the world to compete. The 58-acre park offers 10 world-class soccer fields, as well as a playground and open space.
"Las Vegas has many wonderful parks," said Mayor Carolyn G. Goodman, "but I encourage residents to focus their votes on the Bettye Wilson Soccer Complex, named after a woman whose life was spent developing the soccer program in our community. This park is used by youth soccer teams throughout the region, and if the city were to win this contest, the money could go a long way toward making much-needed improvements!"
Only one park will receive the title of "America's Favorite Park," but grants will be given to three parks that receive the most votes by the end of the contest. Competition is heated between parks located all across the country, with several already having more than a million votes. Voting ends at 9 p.m. PDT July 15. Voters must be legal residents of the United States who are at least 13 years old. Votes generated by any automated means that allows a voter to bypass security verification will be void. Individuals may vote repeatedly. More votes can be earned by checking in via Foursquare. See all the contest rules, restrictions and frequently asked questions at LivePositively.com/rules.
Grants will be awarded in the following amounts: first place $100,000, second place $50,000, and third place $25,000. A fourth park will be selected at random from the remaining parks in the top 25 to win a $15,000 grant. Winning parks will be announced publicly in August 2012. These grants are made possible by the Coca-Cola Live Positively initiative.
