Las Vegas firefighters responded to a house fire at 605 Wyatt Ave. (H & Owens) at 5 a.m. Thursday morning. On arrival, heavy flames were coming out a back window of a garage that was converted into a room of a one-story wood frame house. The occupants of the house, a woman and young daughter, were able to escape without injury.
Firefighters entered the home and had the fire out in three minutes. Fire was confined to the one room and did not damage the interior of the home. Damage is estimated at $20,000. The room was made from a garage which is used for storage, a laundry area and an area for the woman, who is a teacher, to keep school related materials.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. The woman told fire investigators that she woke to the noise of popping; she thought someone broke into her home. When she looked out a back window, she could see flames coming from the window at the rear of the garage. The two occupants and their two pet dogs escaped without injury.
