Fire Damages Downtown Wedding Chapel
Interior of Chapel Was Not Damaged

Las Vegas firefighters responded to a downtown wedding chapel for a minor fire early Wednesday morning.  The chapel was closed at the time of the incident.  There were no reported injuries.

Fire dispatchers first received a 9-1-1 call at 4:02 a.m. that smoke was coming from the Wee Kirk o’ the Heather Wedding Chapel at 231
Las Vegas Blvd. South.   On arrival, smoke was coming from a metal steeple on the roof of the one-story building.

Firefighters ascended to the roof using ladders and cut four small holes into the steeple and found active fire inside.  Using foam and water, they had the fire out within a minute.  Damage was confined to the inside of the steeple and slightly to the roof that it was mounted on.
Damage was estimated at $5,000.

Firefighters on scene believe the fire started as the result of an electrical malfunction (wiring) inside the steeple.
