A NV Energy worker sustained burns when he was shocked while working inside a large power box on the corner of West Washington Avenue and North Cimarron Road at 5:57 Friday afternoon.  Fire dispatchers received numerous calls of a possible explosion with a man down.

Las Vegas Fire & Rescue responded with four emergency units and found that one worker was injured.  The crew working at the site consisted of three employees.  Initially it was thought the other two workers were also shocked; they were not injured. They were checked out by paramedics and released.  

The employees were working on the unit while one was working inside the unit and came into contact with electricity which caused the shock.  The contact did make a large boom type noise which is typical when something comes into contact with electricity.  It caused the worker’s clothes to catch fire.  Fellow employees aided their companion until firefighters and paramedics arrived a few minutes later.

The employee was transported by Las Vegas Fire & Rescue to the trauma unit at University Medical Center with serious burns.  His injuries are believed to be non-life threatening.

The incident is under investigation by NV Energy.
