City Council To Hear Proposal For New, More Convenient, Multi-Bay Parking Meters
New Meter To Be On Display Outside Council Chambers During Meeting

City Council agenda item 20, a proposed contract to replace outdated parking meters downtown with more user-friendly technology, will be heard at the Wednesday, Jan. 23, City Council meeting following the 8:30 a.m. Redevelopment Agency meeting in City Hall council chambers, located at 495 S. Main St.

If approved by the City Council, approximately 233 new meters that take credit and debit card payments in addition to coins, will be installed in late April or early May taking the place of 1,216 outdated meters. The plan also calls for the permanent removal of 111 metered-spaces downtown, increasing free parking opportunities for the public. Parking Services Manager Brandy Stanley will be available for comment following the presentation of item 20.

In addition, Mayor Carolyn G. Goodman will recognize National Wear Red Day as part of the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women campaign. The Go Red Movement empowers and educates women so that they can emerge victorious in their fight against heart disease. Feb. 1 will be designated as Wear Red Day in Las Vegas.

The City Council will also recognize the Seniors of the Quarter, Janet Robinson and Roger Dawson. These seniors are active members of the Park Ambassador Program, drive other seniors to the doctor and cook meals for homebound individuals.

Councilman Ricki Y. Barlow is scheduled to recognize the educational efforts of Wendell Williams Elementary School Principal Brenda McKinney.

The 2012 city of Las Vegas Employee of the Year, Ryan Roskens, a motor sweeper operator, will also be recognized at the meeting for his outstanding work including assisting an elderly citizen who was lost.

Finally, the City Council will also recognize the January, 2013, Employee of the Month.
