House Fire Under Investigation
House Has Been Vacant For Past Few Months

Las Vegas fire investigators are looking into the cause of a fire that damaged a house on the city’s northwest side Thursday morning. Neighbors told fire investigators that the house has been vacant for the past four or five months. There were no injuries reported during the incident.

Las Vegas and North Las Vegas firefighters responded to 5404 Rock Creek Lane (Ann/Jones) at 1:30 a.m. after fire dispatchers received several calls that a house was on fire. When firefighters arrived, heavy flames were showing from the two-story wood frame/stucco house, mostly from the garage area. The fire was too intense for firefighters to first enter the home. It took firefighters about 40 minutes to bring the fire under control.

The fire gutted the garage and damaged some of the second floor of the house. The rest of the house had heavy smoke damage. Damage was estimated at $125,000.

Neighbors told fire investigators that the house had been vacant for the past few months. They believe the house is in the foreclosure process. They also said that someone has been staying in the house. All the utilities to the house were disconnected and the individual had been stealing utilities from other homes. According to neighbors, Metro Police has responded to the house recently because of disturbances.

Fire investigators determined that the fire started in the garage area; the cause and incident remain under investigation.
