Las Vegas firefighters responded to the Four Queens Hotel & Casino just after 7:30 Friday morning after reports that smoke was coming from a marquis sign over the sidewalk on the Third Street side of the building facing the Third St. stage off Fremont St. Initial 9-1-1 calls indicated the stage itself might have been on fire.
Firefighters arrived on scene and found the fire was actually inside the sign itself and the fire was put out before arrival by Four Queens employees using at least a half dozen fire extinguishers. Damage was confined to inside the sign itself, damage was estimated at less than $500.
Maintenance workers told firefighters that an electrician was working on the sign when some debris that accumulated inside the sign caught fire, possibly due to a spark. The fire was accidental, electrical in nature.
There were no injuries.
