Las Vegas firefighters responded to 321 Westeria Ave. (US95/Jones Boulevard) at 9:44 p.m. Saturday after fire dispatchers received multiple 9-1-1 calls that a house was on fire.
When firefighters arrived heavy flames and smoke were showing from a one story wood frame house. Due to the intensity of the fire, firefighters had to fight the fire from the outside. Just as firefighters arrived, the fire spread to a large palm tree in the front yard. Within a few minutes firefighters were able to bring it under control and confine the bulk of the fire to the interior.
The fire heavily damaged the inside of the house. It appears the house is unoccupied, and there were no utilities connected to it. There was a notice on the front of the house that stated the house was unsafe to live in. Damage was estimated at $60,000.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Neighbors told fire investigators that people were seen in the house, even just before the fire. The house was not secured. It appears the fire started in the kitchen area of the house.
There were no injuries during the incident.
