Las Vegas Fire & Rescue Investigators are looking into the cause of a fire that damaged a home near Valley View Boulevard and Sahara Avenue late Monday afternoon. No one was home at the time of the fire. A pet bird did perish in the fire, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
Fire dispatchers received a number of calls at 5:20 p.m. that a house at 3109 Wilmington Way was on fire. Firefighters from Las Vegas Fire & Rescue and the Clark County Fire Department responded and were on scene within a few minutes. Nothing was showing from the outside of the one story wood frame house. Firefighters noticed that the windows were all black on the inside and appeared there was smoke inside. They had to force entry and found the house full of thick smoke and very high heat.
Firefighters found that a sofa was on fire in the living room, but it appeared to have burned itself out. The only object that was destroyed by the fire was the sofa, but the rest of the house sustained heavy damage from the thick smoke and high heat. Fire investigators estimated damage at $50,000.
While searching the house for occupants, firefighters found a pet bird which did not survive.
No one was home at the time of the fire. Firefighters secured the house using a board up company.
The fire remains under investigation. Fire investigators want to talk to the occupants to gather more information which may lead to the cause.
