The community is invited on Tuesday, April 15, at 9 a.m., to the groundbreaking for a new shade structure at the Sunny Springs Park Skate Park, located at 7620 Golden Talon Ave., near the intersection of Golden Talon and Buffalo Drive. Join Ward 6 Las Vegas City Councilman Steven D. Ross, fifth-grade student Dalton Taylor, friends and neighbors as they break ground for an L-shaped metal shade cover that will provide shade for skate park users and their spectators at the southeast corner of the skate park.
The new structure will provide indirect lighting in addition to shade for what is an otherwise large expanse of unshaded concrete. Taylor, 10, a student at Betsy Rhodes Elementary School, requested the project in an email to Councilman Ross last May. Taylor was a frequent skate park user and thought some shade might improve the park for everyone.
“Dalton and I look forward to the swift completion of this shade project for the Sunny Springs Skate Park,” said Councilman Ross. “He and the rest of the community who come to enjoy the park will really appreciate the shade in time for summer.”
Most of the project will be constructed in a shop away from the park, with installation to be complete by late spring. The contract will be awarded to Rafael Construction. The total project is estimated at $80,000, with costs to be paid from the Ward 6 Residential Construction Tax fund.
