City Council To Recognize Students For Their Successful Completion Of The City’s Batteries Included Program
August Citizen Of The Month Will Also Be Recognized

During the ceremonial portion of tomorrow’s City Council meeting at 9 a.m., in council chambers, the City Council will recognize the August Citizen of the Month, Facia. Facia, who goes by her first name only, is a local 14-year-old singer, songwriter and performer. Mayor Oscar B. Goodman chose to recognize Facia because of her many volunteer and charitable efforts. She has worked with numerous charities on a number of different causes including HIV and breast cancer, and has been recognized with a number of awards. Facia will perform her original song “Neon Litez” during the meeting.

Also at tomorrow’s meeting, the City Council will recognize local students who successfully completed the city’s Batteries Included program. The program, a collaborative effort between the city, the Clark County School District and Nevada Partners, kicked off in March with a series of workshops designed to teach students how to get and keep jobs in a competitive marketplace. More than 130 students participated in the workshops. Twenty-three students were offered internships with the city as part of the Get Charged Summer Employment Program, a component of the Batteries Included Initiative. These twenty three individuals will be presented with certificates for their successful completion of the program.

Finally, Mayor Pro Tem Gary Reese will recognize the work of the Transitional Living Center and its coordinator, Greg Walls. The center works closely with the Las Vegas Municipal Court’s Habitual Offender Prevention and Education (HOPE) program, designed to keep habitual offenders off the street. TLC is a private organization dedicated to sober living and the rehabilitation of individuals.
