Election Information

Municipal (City) Elections (Odd-Numbered Years)
All municipal elections are OPEN and NONPARTISAN. Candidates’ parties will not be shown on the ballot. Only voters properly registered within the specific boundaries of the city of Las Vegas may vote in the city of Las Vegas municipal elections. If you are properly registered, you may vote for all offices on your ballot, regardless of your party affiliation, as well as questions applicable to your precinct. The next city of Las Vegas Municipal Election will be held in 2009. The Primary Election will be held April 7, 2009 and, if required, the General Election will be held June 2, 2009.

Note: If, in the Primary City Election, one candidate receives more than a majority of votes cast in that election for the office for which he or she is a candidate, he or she must be declared elected and no General City Election need be held for that office. If no candidate receives a majority of votes for a particular race in the Primary, the names of the two candidates receiving the highest number of votes must be placed on the ballot for the General City Election.

Federal/State/County Elections (Even-Numbered Years)
Nevada is a Closed Primary State: In Nevada, voters are prohibited from voting for candidates from another party. Only registered Democrats may vote in the contests that decide which Democrats advance to the general election. Only registered Republicans may vote in the contests that decide which Republicans advance to the general election. All registered voters may vote in the Nonpartisan contests that decide which candidates advance to the general election. General elections are OPEN. You may vote for all offices on your ballot, regardless of your party affiliation. You may also vote for questions that are applicable to your precinct.
