World’s Happiest Mayor Leads Charge For Healthier City With Healthy Lifestyle Program In Las Vegas
Third Annual Get Movin’ Walk Scheduled For May 16

The public is invited to join Mayor Oscar B. Goodman as he leads the charge to improve the livability of our great city at the third annual Get Movin’ Healthy Lifestyle Walk on Saturday, May 16, at 9:30 a.m. at the Wayne Bunker Family Park at Tenaya Way and Alexander Road. The walk is free and registration opens at 8:30 a.m. Participants can start their day with an invigorating one or two mile walk and stay for a fun day in the park. Free healthy refreshments will be available for participants (while supplies last). The first 150 participants will receive a free T-shirt.

“I want Las Vegas to be one of the healthiest cities in the world,” Mayor Goodman said. “The city offers many great recreational opportunities. I encourage residents to take advantage of these facilities, get exercise and eat smart.”

The Mayor's Healthy Lifestyle Initiative, which can be found along with other healthy tips at http://www.gethealthylasvegas.org/, consists of a three-point plan:

Get Smart: Diet and nutrition are essential components to a healthy lifestyle and quality of life. Educate our citizens about proper diets.

Get Up: Sedentary activities increase the risk of heart disease, stroke and obesity. Educate the citizenry on importance of a healthy, active lifestyle.

Get Out: The mayor and City Council are supportive of parks and recreation amenities and are committed to providing quality facilities in the city of Las Vegas. Identify recreation center, parks and trails near you.

The city of Las Vegas has many leisure services facilities that offer a wide range of activities, from cultural performances, sports leagues, and children’s day camps to Corporate Challenge, the largest amateur athletic competition in the state. We encourage you to visit city facilities, and along the way become healthier and happier. For more information, please contact the Mayor’s Healthy Lifestyle Initiative hotline at 229-1222 or visit the city Web site at www.lasvegasnevada.gov to learn more.
