Jazz Connoisseur Freddie Jackson Hosts Workshop Part II

Las Vegas adult residents are invited to a free jazz preservation workshop with jazz connoisseur and host Freddie Jackson Saturday, Feb. 11, from 3 to 5 p.m. Enjoy refreshments as well as video concerts and straight ahead jazz music from Jackson's private collection of such music masters as Earl Hines, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Louis Armstrong and Lionel Hampton. Part Two of a workshop given last year, the event will be held at the West Las Vegas Arts Center, located at 947 W. Lake Mead Blvd. For more information, call (702) 229-4800.

Born in Oklahoma City, Okla., Jackson began his love for jazz music while living in San Francisco as an adult. After working as a postmaster for most of his career in California, New Jersey, and Virginia, he moved to Las Vegas and started volunteering at KUNV Radio. He loved jazz music so much he decided to become a station DJ; his favorite performers are Gene Ammons, Oscar Peterson and Ricky Woodard.
