Las Vegas Retail Retail Downtown Las Vegas is an outreach program established as a result of the city of Las Vegas Redevelopment Agency’s adoption of the Downtown Centennial Plan. The plan requires ground-floor retail in 70 percent of all new buildings within the Redevelopment Area. The Retail Downtown Las Vegas program was established in 2008 as the demand for service, commercial and entertainment-themed businesses increased in the downtown and redevelopment areas. After researching several successful retail programs in other major metropolitan cities, a program was crafted for our area. The program provides retailers, business owners and commercial brokers with a direct contact at the city who can assist them with information, as well as identify opportunities. Quarterly e-mail blasts provide up-to-date information on local projects of interest. And on-going participation with the International Council of Shopping Centers has allowed city representatives to meet with key real estate decision makers. The city of Las Vegas recently issued request for proposals for new street-level retail space being developed in the downtown area. This has generated a large amount of responses from retailers and business owners. Other exciting initiatives include the coordination of anchor, or “big box,” retail tours in an effort to bring new jobs and additional quality retail shopping options to the downtown area.
