Road Improvement Work Closes Fort Apache Road At Sahara Avenue

Traffic disruptions can be expected tonight on Fort Apache Road at the Sahara Avenue intersection.

Starting at approximately 8 p.m. tonight and continuing until 6 a.m. Friday, May 2, Fort Apache will be closed to through travel at Sahara. Traffic will also be reduced to one lane in each direction for east-westbound traffic on Sahara at the Forth Apache intersection.

Southbound traffic will be detoured off of Fort Apache at Sahara and northbound traffic will be detoured at Desert Inn Road. While work is underway, Hualapai Way and Durango Drive are suggested as alternate routes for through north-south travel.

Fort Apache Road should reopen by approximately 6 a.m.

These temporary disruptions are necessary as work on a $1.8 million traffic improvement project continues. Work includes the removal and reconstruction of median islands, and improvements to sidewalks, curbs, gutters, landscaping, irrigation systems and streetlight poles. Crews are also making modifications to the traffic signals at the Sahara and Fort Apache intersection to improve traffic flow.

Southern Nevada Paving is the contractor for the project. Funding is provided by the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada. The improvement project is being managed by the city of Las Vegas Department of Public Works.
