Las Vegas Mayor Oscar B. Goodman will join hundreds of mayors from around the nation as they weigh in on issues such as rising gasoline prices, global warming and the foreclosure crisis during the United States Conference of Mayors (USCM) meeting from June 20-23 in Miami. The annual gathering will be led by Conference President and Trenton, NJ Mayor Douglas H. Palmer and host Miami Mayor Manuel A. Diaz.
There are several items of note that Mayor Goodman will be participating in during the conference. On Friday, Mayor Goodman will attend a Membership Standing Committee to discuss how cities are responding to high gas prices.
On Saturday, Mayor Goodman, as chair of the conference’s Business Council, will preside over the mayors and business leaders plenary breakfast. At a City Livability Awards luncheon that afternoon, Goodman will be accepting an Honorable Mention award on behalf of the city of Las Vegas for developing exemplary programs that enhance “quality of life” and livability for residents in their communities. Later that afternoon, the mayor will chair a closed meeting of the Nominating Committee, which will nominate the future leadership for the next year.
On Monday, Mayor Goodman will attend the USCM Business Session, where mayors will debate policy resolutions on topics such as Iran, bottled water and immigration. The mayor will be return to Las Vegas Monday evening.
In June 2006, Las Vegas served as host city for the annual USCM conference.
