Elementary School Poster Contest To Be Launched During National Community Planning Month
Contest Open To All Students From K-5th Grade Who Live In The City Of Las Vegas

The city of Las Vegas, Clark County School District and the Nevada Chapter of the American Planning Association have joined forces in sponsoring a poster contest in support of National Community Planning Month. The contest is open to all students from kindergarten to 5th grade who live within the boundaries of the city of Las Vegas.

The theme of the contest is “My Favorite Place in Las Vegas,” and students are encouraged to illustrate the place they believe makes Las Vegas a wonderful place to live and play. Mayor Oscar B. Goodman will select a Grand Prize winner and two runners-up. The contest winners will be recognized by the mayor and council members at the Oct. 7 City Council meeting.

National Community Planning Month, sponsored by the American Planning Association (APA), is intended to increase awareness of the impact that planning has on communities. Good planning helps build neighborhoods of lasting value and creates communities that offer better choices for where and how people work and live.  APA is a nonprofit education and research organization committed to promoting good planning.

Poster entries must be submitted in person or by mail to the CCSD School-Community Partnership Program office at 5450 W. Sahara by 5 p.m. on Sept. 25, 2009. For more information about the poster contest rules and guidelines, please contact Judy Myers with the School-Community Partnership Program at (702) 799-6560 or JEM274@interact.ccsd.net.
