City Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month
Ward 6 Educators Also To Be Recognized

 

The city of Las Vegas will recognize September as Hispanic Heritage Month at the Wednesday, Sept. 16, City Council meeting, which will take place following the Redevelopment Agency meeting at 9 a.m. in City Hall council chambers, located at 400 Stewart Ave.

Mayor Pro Tem Gary Reese and Councilman Ricki Y. Barlow will recognize several Hispanic groups, businesses and individuals for their contribution to the community.

Councilman Steven D. Ross is scheduled to honor three Ward 6 teachers for their hard work in the Clark County School District.

In addition, Councilwoman Lois Tarkanian will recognize the city’s involvement with the Keep America Beautiful Campaign. The city works hard with community partners to keep neighborhoods clean and beautiful.

Councilman Barlow will pay tribute to Chazz Blunt, an 11-year-old, who recently helped a woman who was injured in a traffic accident. The woman had crashed her motorcycle and was trapped underneath it when Blunt helped her to get out from under the motorcycle.

Finally, the City Council will recognize the September 2009 Employee of the Month Carolyn Caviness, a right-of-way agent II with the city’s Public Works Department.
