City Of Las Vegas Celebrates National Community Planning Month
KCLV Channel 2 To Be Recognized For Receiving Emmy Award

The city of Las Vegas will recognize October as National Community Planning Month at the Wednesday, Oct. 7, City Council meeting, which will take place following the 8:30 a.m. Redevelopment Agency meeting in City Hall council chambers, located at 400 Stewart Ave.

As part of this year’s celebration, the mayor will recognize Elementary School students who participated in a contest to create a piece of art that reflects their favorite place in the city. In addition, Planning and Development Deputy Director Tom Perrigo will be recognized as the Western Planner Association’s Planner of the Year for his work with the city’s sustainability initiative.

The city of Las Vegas will also accept an award from the Nevada Chapter of the American Institute of Architects for distinguished service in sustainable practices. Sustainability is a key initiative for the city of Las Vegas where the goal is to meet the needs of the present without compromising the needs of future generations.

Finally, the City Council will recognize KCLV Channel 2, the city’s award-winning government channel, for earning a regional Emmy for a special, Las Vegas Gangs: Not Our Kids.

The program features a ride-along with local law enforcement as they combat gang violence and also features interviews with former gang members. The special presents a look at the social, community and law enforcement problems that gangs cause and investigates resources and programs that are being used to address these issues.

KCLV Channel 2 features live City Council and Planning Commission meetings as well as specials and shows such as Access City Council, Las Vegas Town Hall, City Beat and Las Vegas City Scene. These programs and Las Vegas Gangs: Not Our Kids, may be viewed on the internet at www.kclv.tv.
