Two-Alarm Fire Damages Northwest Apartment Building

Description of damage:  Portion of the roof will need to be replaced, vacant upstairs apartment had heavy fire damage in the attic area, downstairs apartment fire and smoke damage. Six other apartments had a slight odor of smoke or light smoke.

Cause of incident:  Under investigation.  Accidental

General information about the incident:  Ten people live in six apartments, two units of the eight unit building were vacant. Fire started in downstairs unit, went up wall/fireplace chase into attic area. Firefighters were able to arrive on scene quickly and prevent the fire from overtaking the entire building.  Only one of the six occupied units had property damage,  in the other five occupant units was not damaged, residents were able to return to their homes.  All occupants had insurance and are working with their insurance companies. The two occupants in the most damaged unit were moving into a new apartment this evening.  One firefighter was slightly injured.  They did not require hospitalization and remains on duty today.  The fire was ruled accidental.  The Las Vegas Fire & Rescue Foundation provided aid to the two occupants of the most damaged apartment.
